Many of us are setting resolutions for the upcoming year and I think one of the most important things we can do as educational leaders is to stay focused. šŖ
Here are some tips that have helped me through my days š
How to Stay Focused as an Educational Leader: šµ
Before the kids get in check your list (see set 6) be sure these things are scheduled (see step 5).
1ļøā£ Start your day with the kids. Greet them when they enter the building. š
2ļøā£As kids settle into first period stop into classes and greet your teaches and students. Wish them a great day, connect with individual students and teachers. If you can't make it to all of the classes each morning keep a list of which ones you hit so you can be sure you "touch" each class each week. š©āš«
3ļøā£ Go to your office and shut your door. Take 30 minutes to check and respond to your emails. This ensures you can start the day off with a clear inbox. If it should be handled by someone else send it to him/her/them with a timeline of when you want it completed. š»
4ļøā£Check your voicemails. Same as above, respond to what you need to respond to, get more information if necessary, return calls. āļø
5ļøā£ Follow your calendar, be sure you calendarize your activities. Have your meetings, walk-throughs, paperwork time put into your calendar. Is there a time at the end of the day where you can put "Time Sensitive Work". I used to do this to remind me to take care of anything that needed to be done before the end of the day. š
6ļøā£Before going home make a list of what you need to accomplish the following day. š
Try it out and let me know how it does!
