It’s going to be 9 years since I started an elementary charter school.
It was literally sweat and tears; but thankfully no blood!
😭 It was long days and longer nights.
😭 It was all work and no play.
😭 It was always working and never enjoying it.
😭 It was my husband telling me I was not present for the family.
😭 It was exhausting.
One day I said “enough”. I decided to change my reality.
I invested in people in the organization who wanted to be leaders.
I delegated work and responsibility to people who WANTED to help and had the skill set to do that.
✔️ I grew the organization from 194 students to 506.
✔️ I grew my staff from 32 to 97.
✔️ I was able to focus on MY actual job and not EVERYTHING
✔️ I grew other leaders and in the process grew as a leader!
✔️ I am a better teacher and leader now than I ever was.
Listen, I am not special. I just kind of figured it out.
I figured out how to manage the many and varied responsibilities.
I figured out how to delegate to people who were skilled.
I figured out how to let others step in.
I figured out how to be a wife, mom, daughter, sister, and damn good CEO!
If you want to really change your organization, you need to stop trying to go at it alone.
Going at it alone means surviving but not thriving.
It means not being prepared for a crisis.
It means having a hard time making decisions because you’re constantly stressed.
If you’re in a rut right now, here’s my message to you.
Do not do it by yourself!
Get help so you can support your staff and make your leaders the leaders they were meant to be and take some stress away from your already stressful job.
Because if not you, who will?
Life is short.
The path to ‘success’ is not linear, it is a very non-linear journey.
In love, friendship and leadership,
